What is Boomerang?

Boomerang is a skill-based learning platform for people to connect, learn, and grow authentically as they age. We aim to help Canadians build social connections and find new purpose in their retirement years. Through our live online workshops, members will learn new skills, meet like minded people, and/or share their knowledge or passions with others by becoming hosts. We work hard with our hosts to create friendly, fun, safe and supportive environments for workshop attendees. Read more about us here.

What is a creative workshop?

Our creative workshops are designed for you to explore your creative side. Boomerang hosts will guide you through learning experiences in a friendly group setting. What is a lifestyle workshop?

Our lifestyle workshops are designed with popular hobbies for retired and semi-retired in mind. Boomerang hosts are friendly experts who will encourage you to learn and make sure you have a great time doing it. What is a wellness workshop?

Through meditation, mindfulness or an evening spent dancing your worries away, Boomerang’s wellness workshops create a nurturing environment to help guide you to inner discoveries. What is the difference between a Boomerang workshop and a class?

The biggest difference between a Boomerang workshop and a class is people sign up for Boomerang workshops to have fun! It is a social learning experience. While you will learn some serious skills, there is no assignment or test. You can interact with the host or other members in many of our workshops.

What is the difference between Boomerang workshops and a seminars?

Seminars and a workshops are similar in a sense that they both focus on a learning specific topics. However, Boomerang workshops are not just about learning. We created these workshops to help people build social connections and (re)discover a sense of purpose, through shared passions and activities. Boomerang workshops are fun and social! While you will learn some serious skills, there are no assignments or tests. You can interact with the hosts or other members in many of our workshops.

Do I get to participate in the workshop?

Yes, absolutely. Boomerang hosts will typically guide you through an exercise, or teach you a skill while you follow along in the workshop. Many of our workshops are also designed so you can interact with the host - asking questions or clarifying instructions - and socialize with other attendees during the workshop.

Who can join Boomerang?

We created Boomerang as a place for people to learn new skills, explore their passions and create meaningful connections. While our workshops are geared towards retired and semi-retired individuals, everyone is welcome no matter your age or stage in life!

What are the types of workshops you offer?

We offer a wide range of workshops categorized into: 1. Creative workshops (including painting, calligraphy, and creative writing) 2. Lifestyle workshops (including cooking, gardening, and book club) 3. Wellness workshops (including yoga, meditation, and Zumba). You can see all of our workshops here.

Where is Boomerang available?

Boomerang is currently available for all users across Canada. For now, we are only running workshops in English, but stay tuned for expanded offerings for French-speaking Canadians soon!
Boomerang's headquarters are in Toronto, Ontario, but our online workshops are accessible across the country. All of our workshops operate on Eastern Standard Time (EST).

What are Boomerang workshops?

Boomerang workshops are online, interactive skill-learning sessions designed specifically for the retired/semi-retired community. Some examples of our workshops include: chair yoga, gardening, book club, painting, knitting, baking, and so much more! Our workshops are grouped into three main categories: creative, lifestyle and wellness. You can learn new skills or improve on your existing ones while socializing with other members and the host during these workshops. The host will teach you something specific (for example, how to bake cinnamon buns) while you follow along during a workshop.

What are the benefits of Boomerang’s workshops?

Our workshops are live events that happen with a host (an instructor) and a group of Boomerang members who have registered for the same workshop. Boomerang isn't just about learning new recipes, gardening or yoga. We are creating a community for older adults to meet new people and have fun! How will I be able to ask a question?

The opportunity and method for questioning is dependent on the type of workshop and the host’s plan. The host will let you know when and how you will be able to ask questions at the beginning of the workshop. It could be a designated Q&A period where you can unmute and verbally ask questions. For other workshops, it might be written questions in the chat only to avoid interruption. We always take into consideration the flow of the lesson and aim to create the best possible experience for members and hosts.

How long are Boomerang workshops?

Most of our workshops range from 60 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the subject.

What do I need to join an online workshop?

You need an Internet connection and a digital device (such as a computer, tablet or smartphone), so you can access Zoom or WebEx to attend Boomerang workshops online. The link to access your upcoming workshop can be found under ‘My Workshops’ when you log into your Boomerang account. You will need to signed up as a Boomerang Member and register for your workshop in order to join. In addition, you might need supplies or props for a particular workshop. For example, you may need certain ingredients and cooking utensils for a cooking workshop. These requirements are outlined on the page for each workshop.

Can I get the recording of the workshops I attended?

Free workshops do not include recordings. There are recordings offered with some of our premium workshops. Please ensure you read the event description to see if a recording will be shared. We will share the link to the recording in a follow-up email after the workshop has been completed.

What are the costs associated with Boomerang and workshops?

It is free to become a Boomerang member which gives you access to our workshops, resources, and community. We offer both free and premium (meaning at a cost) online workshops. The price of every workshop will be displayed clearly on its registration page before registering for it. You can choose the workshop(s) you want to register for.

What are the service fees mentioned in the terms and conditions?

At Boomerang, it is free to create an account to become a member. We offer both free and premium (meaning at a cost) workshops online. The service fee refers only to the cost of the premium workshops. This cost is listed before you register, and no payment will be taken without you knowing. If you choose to register for a free workshop, you are not prompted to enter any personal payment information (like a credit card number), so you won't be charged any fees as the workshop is free.

How much does Boomerang cost?

Becoming a Boomerang member is totally free. As a member you can view upcoming workshops and get tickets for the ones you’re interested in. Workshops typically range from $0 to $30 depending on the topic and type of offering (ex. standalone workshop vs. a series).

Are there any additional costs besides the cost listed for each workshop?

Nope! The only time you’ll have to pay for something is if you sign up for a premium workshop (a workshop at a cost). The price of each workshop is displayed clearly on its registration page, and you’ll be able to see the total cost before providing your payment information.

How do I get tickets for a workshop?

1. Create a boomerang account. You’ll be able to create a profile, personalize your experience and view all upcoming workshops. 2. Browse upcoming workshops. You can do this by clicking on the workshop tab on the top right hand corner of our website. 3. Select the workshop you’re interested in and get tickets! 4. An email will be sent to you upon getting tickets for your workshop.

How can I find workshops that I’m interested in?

You can view all upcoming workshops here. Once you create a free Boomerang account, you’ll be able to save all workshops you are interested in for later, or get tickets for them right away within your account.

How do I attend the workshop I signed up for?

When it is time to join your workshop, sign in to your Boomerang Account here. Navigate to your "My Workshops" page. Click the workshop that you will be joining. Click the "Join Now" button to enter the meeting. We recommend you aim to join 10 minutes ahead of your start time. Please note: If you do not see your workshop in the “Purchased Workshops” section of your “My Workshops” page, make sure to scroll down and check the “Past Workshops” section. You will still be able to click on the workshop and enter the meeting from there.

I filled in all the fields and clicked ‘sign up’ on the new Boomerang website, but I did not receive the Activation Email. What should I do?

Please check your spam, trash, promotions and updates folders to look for the activation email. If you cannot find it, please head back to the Boomerang website and click the ‘Resend’ button at the bottom of your screen. If you still do not find the Account Activation email, send the Boomerang Team an email at contact@goboomerang.com and we will do our best to help you.

The ‘Activate Account’ button in the email I got from Boomerang after signing up does not work.

It is important that you click the ‘Activate Account’ button in your Activation Email within 24 hours to complete the process of creating your new Boomerang account. It is important that you do not try to use the link in the same email more than once. If the ‘Activate Account’ button in your email is not working, please email the Boomerang Team at contact@goboomerang.com and we will do our best to solve your issue.

What happens if I’m experiencing technical difficulties during the workshop?

I forgot my password. How can I find out what it is?

That’s no problem! On the sign in page, simply click “forgot my password.” You’ll be asked to provide the email you signed up with. We will send you instructions to reset your password.

I have a workshop idea, who can I tell about it?

Fantastic - we’d love to hear it! You can find everything you need to know about hosting on our Host Website. Simply click 'Apply Now' and fill in the details of your proposed workshop, and the Boomerang Team will get in touch with you about next steps.
