About our Host:

Lara believes words are the most powerful weapons on Earth and stories, particularly when shared in the context of community, can save lives. Indeed, words and stories helped her transform her own trauma and tragedy into triumph. Lara captivates audiences with a fearlessness and sensitivity that is spellbinding. She possesses a fierce intellect, a razor-sharp wit, and an innate ability to beam light and laughter into even the darkest corners of life. Lara has appeared on Life Stories on the W Network, The Mom Show, and PROUD FM. She has graced the stages of High Stakes Storytelling, True Stories (Told Live) Toronto, Raw Storytelling, Stories of Ours, This is Trophy, and Grown Ups Read Things They Wrote As Kids. She is a also a semi-regular participant of Toronto Poetry Slam and recently completed a six-city solo tour performing pieces from her poetry collection, grief & loss & love & sex , which is scheduled for re-release later this year for North American distribution. Of her work, others have said:

“It's engaging and real....the language and sonic effects have a sort of urban dazzle to them! " —Nick Courtright, Executive Editor, Atmosphere Press

“It’s achingly beautiful .” —Heather Riesman, CEO, Chapters/Indigo Books & Music.

In between single-parenting a superhero, intermittent global travel, and binge-eating salty snacks, Lara can be found working on her next book and dreaming up screenplays she hopes to one day premiere at TIFF.
