About the Workshop

This workshop is designed for complete beginners with no prior experience, or anyone who wants to brush up on the basics of decorating sugar cookies. Picking up a piping bag can seem intimidating and difficult to tackle in the beginning, but rest assured after this workshop that will not be the case. This workshop is divided into specific, bite-size sections to help you easily understand and master the basic of sugarcookies.

In this session, we will go through the tools and show you how to mix, roll, cut, chill, and bake your dough. How to make and colour royal icing, including the different consistencies and their uses. Finally we will cover how to flood the sugar cookie with the icing, we will cover some basic wet on wet and piping techniques.

You will leave this workshop with recipes, tips and tricks, and the know how to get started on your very own sugar cookie journey.

Come and challenge yourself to learn the beautiful art of decorated sugar cookies.

A note from our Host: 

'Hi, I’m Barbra. I’m a self-taught baker based in Barrie, Ontario. Over the past few years, I’ve taught myself the best practices in baking cookies and cakes. I started Bites By Barbra as I believe anyone can make cookies that are not only delicious but gorgeous to look at. I’m a certified food handler and offer catering to life events both big and small, from corporate luncheons to your toddler’s cake smash! I also love supporting my local charities and organizations, such as Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children - SickKids, Stevenson Memorial Hospital, and the Barrie Chamber of Commerce.. I take great pride in using the best ingredients for everything I bake, and only use eggs from my own free-range chickens!

I hold a B.A. in International Trade from McMaster University. The degree has come in handy as I start my own small business, and work towards future plans of shipping Bites By Barbra across the world. When not wrangling my one and a half year old son, writing or recipe tasting, I can also be found taking walks along kempenfelt bay, going for long bike rides or runs through the country, and of course watching my chickens.
