About the Workshop

Join Shiela for another exciting workshop! We are going to be making Rum Baba! This small yeast cake is originally from France and is typically soaked in rum syrup. Absolutely delicious and very simple to make. Shiela will be demonstrating step by step how to create the cake and the syrup!


For the Baba: 

1⁄3 cup Water 

2 1⁄2 tsp Yeast 

3 tsp Sugar

1 stick Butter (melted) 

1 1⁄2 cup Bread Flour  2 eggs  1 tsp Salt

Raisins *optional*

For the Syrup: 

2 cups Sugar

1 tbsp Vanilla Extract 

1⁄2 Dark Rum  2 cups Water

A recipe sheet with instructions will be shared with you prior to the online workshop. 

About our Host: 

Shiela Labao is a self-taught baker of over 10 years – so you can say that she’s had a lot of practice baking for fun. Realizing that her passion and skills can bring a community together, she decided to get a bit more serious and start baking for a purpose. Shiela has completed professional classes at George Brown College. Always focusing on the science behind the baking.
