About the Workshop
Mosaic art might be one of the oldest art forms we still practice. The earliest evidence of mosaics can be found in Mesopotamia in the 3rd Millennium BC! ‘Mosaics’ refers to art or images made from assembling small pieces of glass or stone or other nature-based materials (called ‘tessera’). You might think of mosaics as something for the floor of a famous old building, or the backsplash in a friend’s kitchen after a high-priced bespoke remodel. But mosaic art is something you can practice on a smaller scale, too. Mosaic pendants, trivets (those coasters you rest tea pots on), and other small accessories are relatively easy to make, useful in your home, and fun to wear when you are looking for unique accessories. Disparate shards of glass or even found or recycled objects can be combined to form something beautiful. Why not learn the basics so you can apply your skills to various surfaces, and create beautiful, useful art for use in your home or even to give as a gift to family or friends. With our talented mosaics instructors at Boomerang, you’re in good hands. The nice thing about this art form is that it’s easy to try (no prior experience needed), you’re pretty sure to get a nice result even if you’re inexperienced, and you can really personalize your creation, even when you’re just trying it out for the first time.
Come experience an art form that has been in existence for thousands of years - Mosaic! In this workshop you will learn about the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, ceramic, stone, or other materials. You will be making a trivet (6" x 6") that can be used as a coaster for tea pots, large mugs, small plants, and many other things.
