About the Workshop
In this hands-on introductory workshop you will experience the mindfulness and meditation practices used to improve people’s well-being, calmness and joy. These practices are used to develop a healthy and loving relationship with yourself, others and the world around you.
Over a 2-hour session, you will also experience and discuss the mindfulness and meditation principles used by modern science to decrease stress and to treat depression, anxiety and chronic pain.
What to Bring: Dress in comfortable clothing, bring a cozy blanket and come to experience the joy of being alive!
This Workshop Includes:
· Discussion and guided mindfulness and meditation exercises
· A presentation about the principles of mindfulness and meditation as used in the fields of wellness, medicine and psychology
· A list of resources that you can read and use to familiarise yourself with the principles discussed and experienced during the workshop
About our Host:
Monica Mansilla, PhD, is the founder and clinical director of the Relational Path Institute (www.relationalpath.com), whose mission is to promote the Existential-Humanistic approach to relationship therapy and mindfulness. Dr. Mansilla holds a doctorate in Psychology and two doctoral level certifications including International Psychology and Existential Humanistic Psychotherapy. She developed the Humanistic-Existential Approach to Relationship Therapy HEART, which she teaches to psychotherapist and psychologists around the world. She also developed the Mindfulness Based Approach to Existential Therapy MBExist, which she utilizes in mindfulness groups and she teaches to mindfulness group leaders. Dr. Mansilla’s doctoral dissertation received the dissertation of the year award, and her Relational Mindfulness theory was recognized with the Rollo May Scholarship Award for the advancement of Existential Humanistic Theory. She has published two books on International Psychology and has several science and arts related publications including academic journals, encyclopedias and poetry books. After 10 years of living and working abroad, Dr. Mansilla recently relocated back to Canada where she is now practicing as a psychotherapist. Nonetheless, given her Guatemalan origin and her life and work journey in over 40 countries, she considers herself a citizen of the world.
Accessibility Level: Moderate. The workshop is on the 2nd Floor of the Centre for Social Innovation - Spadina in the Climate Ventures space. Please enter through the north doors that are located to the right when facing the building from Spadina Avenue. If you have a mobility aid, you can use the South entrance to take the wheelchair stair lift down the stairs to the main level. There is an elevator that can bring you to the 2nd level. There is a washroom on the same level as the workshop floor.
