Intro to Nordic Pole Walking
Time & Location
About the Workshop
Boomerang invites you to join us for a two hour beginner Nordic Pole Walking session hosted by Joanie Baker, of Joanspilates, associate of Personal Best Physiotherapy & Core Muscle Activation Therapy.
The first half of this workshop will be focused on teaching everyone how to set up their poles; reviewing of the basic hand grip and swing from shoulders mechanics; the correct pole lengths for each person’s height and awareness exercises for positioning while using the poles.
At the beginning of each session, everyone is encouraged to set up their poles and be ready to join the group for the specific warm up pole walking exercises, which is the groundwork for successful pole walking, developing ease of movement techniques to avoid exhaustion, tension, and bad habits.
There will be time for everyone to experience walking at their own pace, which means walking confidently on your own after learning most of the techniques.
It is best to return to the group after experiencing your own paces, to go through the cool down and stretches at the end of the walk time. Expect to have a few laughs, meet new people, and don’t be shy to reach out when you are not sure!
Joan is here to help make this experience fun, full of lightness and with no judgement. We look forward to meeting you on the wellness path!
Meeting Location: Mount Pleasant Cemetery (Visitation Centre)
$20 - This ticket is for those that have poles and will be using them during the session.

About our Host:
After surviving childhood Rheumatic Heart Disease, it is my pleasure and excitement to share the joy I experience working with anyone who wishes to make a change. It’s thrilling to be part of a clients’ health journey by offering encouragement and positive feedback, as well as listening closely to everyones’ needs and bearing witness to their achievements.
In the past 6 years, I became a Certified Pole Walking Instructor to encourage people to step outside of their comfort zones where possible, by adding resistance using the walking poles! What a great feeling to actually change the way we walk for our hearts!
The Pilates / Eldoa / Restorative training is highly complementary to the Pole Walking Techniques. My past experience and training with Body Harmonics Pilates has given me a broad repertoire of movements to help reinforce and strengthen movement.
I am honoured and grateful to be part of the fitness & integrated movement industry. I look forward to meeting everyone on the path to wellness!
Please reach out to Scott at (437) 219-7152 if you have any questions about this session.
