About the Workshop

"People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love." – Nelson Mandela

Join us December 14 at Meridian Arts Centre to witness Nelson Mandela's lifelong fight against apartheid - a system of white supremacy in South Africa. Through this exhibition, you will follow Mandela into hiding after he is declared an outlaw, and join him inside a replica of the tiny cell that was his home. You can see how the architects of apartheid took pages from Canada's own history. You will experience how his humility and tolerance inspired the world to come together and oppose apartheid, including the Canadians who joined the fight for equality. You will be inspired by Mandela's kindness and capacity for forgiveness and experience his hope for a better world, in which freedom, justice, and dignity were valued for all people! As Mandela said, "Courageous people do not fear forgiving, for the sake of peace."

Accessibility: Easy. The venue can be accessed from street level. The exhibition is on the ground level. There are washrooms on the ground level.
