Culinary Workshop: Healthy Cooking At Home
Time & Location
About the Workshop
Food plays a massive role in our lives. It’s part of every celebration, every milestone, every period of grieving and adjusting to life after loss. Most parties happen in the kitchen for a reason: that’s where the food is. Many of the best conversations happen over dinner. Entire trips have been planned around food, thousands of books have been written about food. Food is deeply entwined in every culture around the globe. Food is personal and it’s what sustains us.
Nutrition is the foundation upon which every other aspect of life is built. Without it, all else is compromised. We are (very literally) what we eat. Yet, eating well involves a complicated, personal journey. It can be really hard to know where to start, and which sources are reliable. Eating ‘well’ might feel like it has to involve tasteless, bland food we don’t enjoy eating, or even practicing restrictive diets. Because we’ve been living in a commodified, genetically modified, fast-food world for so long, most of us are disconnected from our food sources and, consequently, we might feel underequipped when it comes to knowing how to prepare food that tastes good and that’s also good for us.
That’s where Lara comes in.
A classically-trained chef and former catering business owner, Lara’s particular area of culinary passion focuses on nutrition first, without compromising everything we love about eating: the flavours, the textures, the entire interactive, sensual experience of food.
Join Lara on October 3, 2019 at The Deppaneur as she shows you how to make healthier versions of some of your favourite comfort foods. All materials will be provided.
Accessibility Level: Easy. The workshop is on the ground floor, with an unobstructed ground floor double door that can easily accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility aids. The washroom is on the same floor with a 36" wide door & grab bar, but requires negotiating a very tight 90° turn.
