About the Workshop

Boomerang is starting an online book club and we want you to join us. In our first virtual series, we’ll be discussing The Handmaid’s Tale, which has become a global phenomenon since being converted to TV a short time ago (Canadians have loved this book for 30 years. Just saying.).

Our online forum will be led by author Kern Carter, who will guide conversations on different themes from the classic novel. We’ll be taking our time and splitting the discussion into five parts over a two week period so you’ll have plenty of time to read. Each time we virtually meet, we’ll discuss a different set of chapters. Whether you’ve read the book already or are reading it as the discussion progresses, this Workshop Series is for you.

In case you’re not familiar with The Handmaid’s Tale, here’s a short description:

From Goodreads: “Funny, unexpected, horrifying, and altogether convincing, The Handmaid's Tale is at once scathing satire, dire warning, and tour de force.” Famed author Margaret Atwood’s timely novel has been made into a TV series and has a recently-published sequel: The Testaments. This book is a great way to engage with some of her best work.

Here are the dates for the online book club sessions and the chapters you’ll be expected to read:

Chapters 1-3: Monday, March 23rd @ 11am

Chapters 4-6: Friday, March 27th @ 11am

Chapters 7-9: Wednesday, April 1st @ 11am

Chapters 10-12: Monday, April 6th @ 11am

Chapters 13-15: Friday, April 10th @11am
