Fullstack Software Developer

About the role:

The Boomerang (https://www.goboomerang.com ) community and product is growing! We are expanding our team so that we can support this growth and provide the best skill sharing experiences to our community members. We are looking for someone who is extremely passionate about helping people connect and always energized by meeting and connecting with other people.

Boomerang is a small, young company, with a strong culture and a clear product vision. We’re looking for a Fullstack Software Developer to join our growing team at Boomerang, an RBC Ventures (https://www.rbcventures.ca/) venture. The person who takes on this role will contribute significantly to the product's early-stage growth, and it's therefore an excellent opportunity for developers with an owner's mindset who are looking to take on more responsibility and grow their skills quickly in a short matter of time.

The Opportunity:

  • You'll have visibility into all parts of the technology stack, and enjoy a high degree of autonomy in your work.

  • You'll interact with end-users, and be able to influence what solutions are chosen to solve their problems.

  • You'll plan, design, write, deploy, monitor, and maintain the software that supports the chosen solutions.

  • You'll use modern tooling throughout. A snapshot of what's currently in-use:

    • Web Client: React, Jest, React Testing Library.

    • Web Server: NodeJS, Express, Sequelize.

    • DB: PostgreSQL.

    • Infrastructure: AWS, CloudFormation.

  • You'll enjoy the flexibility, tempo, and ownership of being part of a startup, and the job security of being employed by a Fortune 500 company.

The Expectations:

  • You'll be responsible for delivering, monitoring, and maintaining a significant amount of the software that supports the business.

  • You'll put in the work necessary to empathize with the software's end-users, and understand their challenges on an emotional level.

  • You'll embrace an owner's mindset: continually striving to make an impact; investing time, energy, and capital as if they were your own; and understanding that no part of the business is outside the scope of your job.

  • You have enough production JavaScript experience to begin contributing clean, pragmatic code immediately, and the curiosity and ambition necessary to continually learn new technologies, methods, and interpersonal skills.

  • You have excellent communication, time management, and project management abilities. Your team members can clearly understand the state of your work, your delivery plans, and your ideas for improving both the business' software and the business itself.
