Community Coordinator 

About Boomerang:

Boomerang is a social platform for people (50+) to explore their passions, learn new skills, and connect with their community. With Boomerang, people can attend or host (all virtual and online for the time being) experiences and connect with like-minded people. We aim to promote life-long learning and the sharing of skills amongst peers in a demographic that has so much to share. We’re also looking to combat some of the most prominent social issues Canadian retirees are facing such as loneliness, social isolation, and a lost sense of purpose

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Community Coordinator will support the Operations team with workshop logistics, community management, and social media & website related tasks. The ideal candidate is passionate about social change, experienced with events and social media management, and hyper organized with a strong work ethic. 



  • Planning, booking, and execution of new workshops around the GTA 

  • Communicate with hosts (instructors) to confirm workshop bookings

  • Communicate with Venues to book workshops

  • Empower Boomerang Ambassadors to be the best advocates for our brand.

  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and communications with Ambassadors for workshops and event support 

  • Represent the Boomerang team at skill sharing events (currently all online), welcome guests, introduce boomerang to the attendees and explain how people can get involved

  • Respond to Member questions and concerns, escalating to Ops Manager when necessary

  • Assist in the processing of payments for venues, hosts and Ambassadors

  • Support Operations Leadership in running Events (Socials, Trade Shows, etc.)

  • Vet new workshop Host applications 


  • Be the voice of the brand in all of its social networks and platforms

  • Nurture community through continuous dialogue and engagement; actively engage in dialogue with community via social channels 

  • Monitor brand tags and identify opportunities for re-posts

  • Use feedback and insights from community engagement (social media, affiliate and influencer channels) and share with cross-functional teams in real time to help the business evolve its strategies in a timely fashion 

  • Keep all photos and other design assets updated and organized in the Team’s drive for easy use

  • Write copy for events to be uploaded to the Boomerang Site

  • Edit video for social media posts and the Boomerang site



  • Participate in ideation and strategy for PR, Communications, Marketing & Operations

  • Collate & Communicate insights from the community to Operations Manager & Co-founders to inform strategy


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1+ years of relevant experience

  • Event experience – from development and planning to onsite support interacting with groups of people, and providing high-level customer service

  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal

  • Highly organized with a strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage their time efficiently 

  • Demonstrated history of establishing effective working relationships across a diverse team

  • Solid understanding of social media platforms and their marketing tools

  • Demonstrates knowledge of financials: invoicing, and budget maintenance experience

  • Must be proactive with the ability to work independently

Boomerang is a small, young company, with a strong culture and a clear product vision. We’re looking for a Fullstack Software Developer to join our growing team at Boomerang, an RBC Ventures ( venture. The person who takes on this role will contribute significantly to the product's early-stage growth, and it's therefore an excellent opportunity for developers with an owner's mindset who are looking to take on more responsibility and grow their skills quickly in a short matter of time.

The Opportunity:

  • You'll have visibility into all parts of the technology stack, and enjoy a high degree of autonomy in your work.

  • You'll interact with end-users, and be able to influence what solutions are chosen to solve their problems.

  • You'll plan, design, write, deploy, monitor, and maintain the software that supports the chosen solutions.

  • You'll use modern tooling throughout. A snapshot of what's currently in-use:

    • Web Client: React, Jest, React Testing Library.

    • Web Server: NodeJS, Express, Sequelize.

    • DB: PostgreSQL.

    • Infrastructure: AWS, CloudFormation.

  • You'll enjoy the flexibility, tempo, and ownership of being part of a startup, and the job security of being employed by a Fortune 500 company.

  • You have excellent communication, time management, and project management abilities. Your team members can clearly understand the state of your work, your delivery plans, and your ideas for improving both the business' software and the business itself.
